moonheart, FKA kim mayo, is a neuroqueer writer, musician, artist & filmmaker. Their music has been described as “a collection of pop songs that positively shiver with finesse & delicate poise” by Gold Flake Paint & “deeply evocative & instantly interesting” by The Line Of Best Fit. Their writing has been featured on The Slowdown podcast, read by Ada Limón, & been published in The Women's Review of Books, Pigeon Pages, Struggle Mag, & on their YouTube, where they sometimes set their poems to stop-motion videos. In 2025, they released their first book, may i be a buzzing thing: affirmations & love notes for the neurodivergent artist’s spirit, in conjunction with their song ‘hummingbird’s prayer.’ In 2021, they were commissioned by Ars Nova to adapt their poem ‘addy’ into ‘addy gets a childhood,’ a short film that they wrote, directed, shot, & animated. They recently won a writing fellowship & TA position for In Surreal Life, facilitated by Shira Erlichman, & to Catapult’s 12-month Poetry Generator with Angel Nafis, where they were supported in completing their first full-length collection of poems. They’re currently dreaming, making, & preparing to put out an album from LA.
